Abstract

The most frequent medical consultations from cyclists are normally due to back-neck pain and problems related to the knee extensor apparatus. The diagnosis includes pain evaluation, physical examination, constitutional factors, and imaging studies. Furthermore, examination of the bike and footwear is also necessary. The anamnesis is very important and complementary explanations are needed. Treatment includes rest, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, ice, muscle relaxants, and physical therapy and rehabilitation measures, among others. The preventive actions deal with modifying the sports gesture and acquiring a right position on the bike. Measuring perineal height, independent of the total height, is essential to choose the right bike. With this review we have aimed to draw attention towards those "man-machine" tandem imbalances in order to help the cyclist prevent future pathologies.
