Abstract

Recently it has combined physical exercise with partial restriction of muscle blood flow. This new methodology of training can be applied with low intensity exercise stimulus, but get both structural and functional benefits, similar to those achieved with more intensive training. Consequently, it can improve fitness without excessive strain or muscle damage at the cardiovascular level but it requires great motivation for implementation. However, this new method points to its possible application in segments of the population who need to benefit from physical exercise but have contraindications to the high-intensity exercise. Thus, the purpose of this review is to list the answers and the benefits of partial occlusion of blood flow, to discuss the physiological mechanisms and to establish general recommendations for its implementation and suggest future studies.
