Abstract

Objective: To analyze the type of breakfast according to the level of physical condition and quality of life in primary school students, observing the mediating effect of weight status and physical activity in these relationships.

Material and methods: Cross-sectional study made up of 281 Spanish schoolchildren. Quality of life was assessed using the KIDSCREEN-10 test, physical condition using the ALPHA-Fitness battery and the breakfast items using the KIDMED.

Results: The logit regression test associates a greater general physical condition and some of its dimensions with the intake of a breakfast (p <0.05). Lower physical condition and higher quality of life are associated with having industrial pastries for breakfast (p <0.05), however, after adjusting for weight status and physical activity, these differences disappear (p> 0.05).

Conclusion: The relationship between the level of physical condition and the quality of life with an unhealthy breakfast seems to be moderated by the state of weight and physical activity in schoolchildren.
