Tensiomyography as muscle evaluation tool in sports
Abstract
Tensiomyography (TMG) is a method developed in the 1990s in order to perform non-invasive muscle evaluation. Such technology, designed first for medical applications, has been introduced in the sports field in which is shown as a very promising technique since it is reliable and relatively easy to use. Since its use in the sports field is relatively recent, no review articles are found, to the best of our knowledge, in the literature providing clarification on some important aspects of the technique. Thus, the objective of the present work is to recapitulate and present some of the most relevant factors to ease the use of this tool for those who decide to put it among their training control elements. The paper deals with essential aspects such as advantages and applications it enables; explanation on the measurement procedure; aspects to consider for a correct assessment, and criteria for correctly explaining and analyzing the obtained information.
