Abstract

The present study was designed to review articles related to the systematic practice of futsal such as: a) physiological demands of futsal, b) physical characteristics of professional athletes of futsal. The search for articles was conducted in national and international journals, available in four databases (Medline, Lilacs, DOAJ and Scielo), totaling 26 publications selected. The terms used for the research were: futsal, indoor soccer, futsal physiology. It was selected only studies involving male professional athletes, considering the relevance of the topic. The main findings were: a) the intensity of the game is high throughout the match, but it seems to decrease in the 2nd period; b) the futsal players have similar physical characteristics, regardless of performance level, c) the decisive actions of the game occur in high intensities d) the aerobic power may distinguish the performance of futsal players.
