Structural and dynamic analysis of the collective attack in high-level handball: a systematic review
Abstract
Introduction: In handball, there is analysis of training, for example, the 7x6 attack with an empty goal. Objective: To synthesize the tactical evolution in handball, identifying trends, rule effects, and effectiveness markers. Method: Systematic review in PubMed/PMC, MDPI, Frontiers/T&F, and qualified grey literature. Combined terms: handball, offensive tactics, positional attack, 7 vs 6, empty goal, passing network, polar coordinates, offensive effectiveness. Results: 27 studies met the criteria. Four axes emerged: (1) The "empty goal" rule and its situational/risk-benefit effects; (2) Passing network patterns and centrality of playmakers/pivots in positional attack; (3) Offensive effectiveness markers that differentiate winners from losers; (4) Complex analytical models for understanding interactions and decision-making. Conclusion: The use of the 7x6 system, second pivot, width of wingers, refinement of ball circulation, and situational reading supported by data analysis are combined. The 7x6 format offers an advantage, but it depends on the score/time, increasing the risk of conceding goals.
