Drugs in the treatment of general symptoms of Fibromyalgia: A systematic review
Abstract
Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition that is often accompanied by fatigue and sleep disorders, and its diagnosis is difficult due to the lack of accurate information. There is no specific treatment or biological markers to diagnose or monitor it. Pharmacological treatment is the most common to relieve symptoms. This systematic review seeks to analyze the effects of the main drugs used in its treatment. The search was carried out in the databases: Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed and SciELO, in studies published from 2020 to 2024, including 13 articles. The most commonly used drugs are naltrexone, suvorexant, duloxetine, pregabalin, milnacipran, allopurinol, TNX-102 SL, palmitoylethanolamide, ozone, ferric carboxymaltose, lignocaine, and ketamine. These have been shown to reduce the general symptoms of fibromyalgia. Pharmacological treatment relieves the symptoms of fibromyalgia, and a correct diagnosis is essential, as is knowledge of the medications used and their long-term effects.
